Pontine Theatre’s touring production of A New England Christmas
Saturday, December 4 6:00 PM
Featuring an original staging of William Dean Howell’s Christmas Everyday and Christmas in Our Town by Alice Van Leer Carrick.
Author, editor, playwright and poet, William Dean Howells (1837-1920) was a resident of Kittery, Maine. In his story Christmas Every Day, a little girl is granted a wish by the Christmas Fairy. Her wish is to have Christmas everyday for a whole year. The first day of Christmas is perfect. The following day it is Christmas again, and every subsequent day as well. It wreaks havoc with the economy. All the woods are cut down for Christmas trees. People get so poor, buying presents, that everybody had to go to the poorhouse. Finally, the little girl begs the Christmas Fairy to undo the spell; she doesn’t want it to be Christmas ever again.
In her treasured reminiscence, Christmas in Our Town, Alice Van Leer Carrick tells of her treasured memories of a New England holiday in Hanover, New Hampshire in the mid-20th century. Her whimsical turn of phrase and witty allusions coupled with sheer sentiment goes straight to the heart.

New Hampshire Presidential Primary: A Lighthearted Look at the Longshots
Thursday, January 16, 4:00 PM
What do Billy Joe Clegg, Vermin Supreme, Russell Fornwalt and Caroline “The Hemp Lady” Killeen have in common with Joe Biden, Donald Trump, Barack Obama and George W. Bush?
They’ve all been on the New Hampshire Presidential Primary ballot!
While voters in the rest of the country choose between two or three candidates in their presidential primaries, New Hampshire voters regularly see ballots that list dozens of candidates. Those candidates push a social cause, feel a religious calling, promote a personal comedy career or just want people to listen to their ideas on how to run (or not run) the country.
As an award-winning news reporter at two NH radio stations and The Associated Press, David Tirrell-Wysocki covered nine NH Primaries and closely watched four others. He interviewed the virtually all of the primary winners and many candidates who knew they stood no chance to win, but paid the $1,000 filing fee and added to the primary’s mystique with their antics, hand-written news releases, novel ideas and heartfelt dreams.
From cows on the side of the road to conspiracy theorists on the phone, from motorcades on a frozen lake to a bicycle on Main Street, David catches up to the candidates and presents their stories in a light-hearted, non-partisan peek at those who enter New Hampshire’s primary.
This program is free and open to the general public. Registration is not required.
