Windham teen wins statewide library video contest
New Hampshire’s Young Adult Library Services Association, in collaboration with the national Collaborative Summer Library Program, has announced that Windham’s Niki Kuchipudi is the New Hampshire winner of the 2013 Teen Video Challenge.
Now in its third year, the Teen Video Challenge is a national competition that encourages teens to create 30- to 90-second public service announcements that encourage both reading and using public libraries throughout the summer.
This year’s theme was “Beneath the Surface.” Kuchipudi’s winning video challenged people to think beyond what they might expect – not to “judge a book by its cover” – and to “visit your local library this summer and discover what’s beneath the surface.”
Entries were judged on creativity, message clarity and relevance, motivation and inspiration, and overall impact. Judges for New Hampshire’s competition were Tom Dooley, associate professor at Colby-Sawyer College; Maryann Mroczka, executive producer of N.H. Chronicle; and Matthew Newton, director of the N.H. Film & Television Office.
For her hard work and creativity, Kuchipudi will receive a monetary award of $275 and her public library, Nesmith Library in Windham, will receive prizes worth $125.
Kuchipudi’s video will join other state winners as official national Collaborative Summer Library Program 2013 Teen Video champions and will be used to promote summer reading across the United States. Twenty-six states and more than one hundred teens participated in the creation of these winning videos.
